Cyclone SID Tom Kroeschell: Iowa Time Machine June 30, 2021

Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On June 30, 2021, Tom Kroeschell retired from his duties related to sports information at Iowa State University. Kroeschell spent decades helping shape the Cyclones' stories.

Kroeschell began his path in sports information while a student at Drake University in Des Moines. A native of the Chicagoland area in Illinois, he returned to work at Northwestern University before finding his permanent fit in Ames when a job opened during the mid-1980s.

Kroeschell arrived at Iowa State in 1985, a time when college athletics was becoming more media-driven and more dependent on careful public communication. Signed up to make $18,900 a year, he went to work helping Cyclone fans get a better sense of their sports teams.

He spent 36 years in the athletic department, rising to head SID in 1993. Twenty years later, he transitioned to Cyclones.tv. During his long career, Kroeschell helped the public better understand the Cyclones one game, one story, and one season at a time. #Iowa #OTD #History #IowaState #Athletics
