Iowa History Daily: On January 28, 1952, Norma “The Monona Marvel” Schoulte set the Iowa 6-on-6 single game scoring record with 111 points in a tournament win over Harpers Ferry. The 6’4” star scored 4,187 total points over a four-year high school career from 1948-1952.
Also known as “The Lethal Lady,” Schoulte dominated on the hardwood after only starting to play as a high school freshman. A quick study and a towering force on the court, Schoulte earned third-team all-state honors as a sophomore, second-team honors as a junior, and first-team as a senior.
Dominant during her senior season as a Monona Bulldog, Schoulte set the state scoring record in the sectionals of postseason play. The previous record of 101, set by Keswick’s Helen Corrick in 1947, fell as Schoulte dropped in 54 field goals and three free throws to hit a total of 111 in the 132-12 Monona victory over the Harpers Ferry Hawks.
Schoulte helped boost the Bulldogs to the state tournament final, where they ran into a pair of 6-on-6 legends. Behind Frances and Francine Billerbeck the Reinbeck Hawkettes took down Monona 61-55 at the Drake Fieldhouse. Schoulte scored 41 of Monona’s 55 points, but a balanced attack from Reinbeck helped end the dominant run of “The Monona Marvel.” #IowaOTD #IowaHistoryDaily #IowaHistoryCalendar
