Kohawk Fred Jackson: Iowa Time Machine November 9, 2002

Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On November 9, 2002, Fred Jackson returned a punt for a touchdown in a Coe College win over Luther on his way to an MVP season in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. After dominating on the gridiron in Cedar Rapids and for the arena football Sioux City Bandits, Jackson went on to find success in the NFL.

While prepping at Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas, Jackson found himself buried on the depth chart as a senior due to his small stature. When another running back got hurt, Jackson found his way to the second string but never got a starting role. Without any college offers, Jackson and his brother headed to Cedar Rapids to enroll at Coe College.

Jackson again worked patiently while he waited for an opportunity at Coe, and in 2002, he made the most of it. In 2002, he broke out with 2,702 yards and 29 touchdowns, earning All-American Status. A two-time MVP of the IIAC, Jackson also gained distinction as the 2003 MVP of the Stars Bowl. After graduation, however, Jackson again found himself seeking an opportunity despite going undrafted.

Several NFL tryouts didn’t result in a contract, and Jackson signed to play with the Sioux City Bandits in the National Indoor Football League. While working as a youth counselor at the local Boys & Girls Home, Jackson racked up 1,770 yards and 53 touchdowns in 2005. Following a stint in NFL Europa during 2006, Jackson signed with the Buffalo Bills. Over a nine-season career in Buffalo, Jackson racked up 5,746 rush yards and 39 touchdowns. #Iowa #OTD #History #NFL #CollegeFootball
