Cyclone Ed Bock: Iowa Time Machine July 31, 2004

Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On July 31, 2004, Iowa State football legend Ed Bock passed away. A fierce presence on the line at Fort Dodge High School, Iowa Central Community College, and Iowa State, Bock dominated in the trenches.

The son of Bock Welding and Supply Company of Fort Dodge’s founder, Bock’s athletic play at tackle on both offense and defense helped pave the way for success as a Dodger. Bock continued to dominate while spending a year at Fort Dodge Junior College (now Iowa Central). While at Iowa State, he pursued a degree in engineering.

A 60-minute guard for the Cyclones, Bock captured all-conference honors as a junior in 1937. The following year, as Iowa State began the season with a ten-game winning streak, Bock proved a vital part of the Cyclone offense and defense. Earning All-American honors for his aggressive offensive line play and hard-hitting tackling, Bock etched his name in Cyclone lore as one of the greatest players in the program’s early history.

Bock took a job with Monsanto after graduation. Over a decades-long career, Bock’s work ethic earned in the trenches continued to pay off. He rose through the ranks, first becoming President before retiring as CEO of the multinational company in 1972. #Iowa #OTD #History #Football #Sports
