Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On June 3, 1942, Duane Josephson was born in New Hampton. From sandlot dreams in Chickasaw County to the Major League All-Star Game, Josephson starred at the University of Northern Iowa before finding his way to the show.

At New Hampton High School, he lettered ten times in sports, a testament to the era’s multi‑sport ethos that expected talented athletes to move seamlessly from hardwood to infield. He enrolled at what was then Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa. He became a standout in both baseball and basketball, helping lead the Panthers to three conference baseball titles and an NCAA tournament appearance while also earning acclaim on the basketball court.

After his collegiate success in Cedar Falls, Josephson signed with the Chicago White Sox organization, spent several seasons in the minor leagues, and made his Major League debut on September 15, 1965. As a right-handed-hitting catcher, he carved out a role in Chicago during a pitching‑dominated era. In 1968, he enjoyed his finest season, appearing in 128 games, hitting .247 with 107 hits, 16 doubles, 6 triples, and 6 home runs while earning selection to the American League All‑Star team.

Traded to the Boston Red Sox after the 1970 season, he continued his career in the American League before health problems, particularly a blood‑clotting condition, cut short his playing days; over eight big league seasons, he compiled a .258 batting average with 388 hits in 1,505 at‑bats. #Iowa #OTD #History #Baseball #Sports
