Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On December 26, 1991, legendary Hawkeye lineman Brandon Scherff was born in Denison. A standout at Denison High, Scherff went on to earn All-American honors at Iowa before going on to a Pro Bowl NFL career.

Playing for Dave Wiebers at Denison High School, Scherff dominated on the offensive and defensive line to earn first-team All-State honors on offense as a senior and second-team All-State status on defense as a junior. Before life in the trenches, Scherff played quarterback as a sophomore and passed for 1,200 yards. Scherff also shone in other sports, helping Dension to a state tournament appearance in baseball during his junior year and leading the state in rebounds on the basketball court during his senior season. Scherff also garnered All-State recognition as a standout shot putter and discus thrower, capturing state titles in the shot put twice and winning the event at the 2010 Drake Relays.

A three-star recruit, Scherff committed to Iowa before redshirting as a freshman. Replacing Riley Reiff as the starting left tackle as a sophomore, and started to put together one of the all-time great offensive line careers at Iowa. During his senior season, he gained further acclaim as a unanimous All-American, the Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year, and the winner of the Outland Trophy. A two-time first-team All-Big Ten honoree, he also earned the Big Ten's Lineman of the Year award.

Selected fifth overall by Washington in the 2015 NFL draft, Scherff went on to capture PFWA All-Rookie honors while helping Washington to a first-place finish in the NFC East. In 2016, Scherff made the Pro Bowl for the first time. He also gained Pro Bowl Status in 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2021. A first-team All-Pro honoree in 2020, Scherff left Washington and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022. #Iowa #OTD #History #Hawkeyes #NFL
