Iowa Time Machine⏰: On October 18, 2008, legendary Hawkeye running back Shonn Greene broke out for 217 rush yards and four touchdowns while averaging nearly nine yards per carry as Iowa beat Wisconsin to capture the Heartland Trophy. A unanimous All-American, Doak Walker Award, and Jim Brown Trophy winner, Greene helped the Hawkeyes win the 2009 Outback Bowl.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Greene headed west to Iowa after racking up 1,378 yards during his senior season at Winslow Township High School. After spending a year at Kirkwood Community College, Greene dominated the 2008 season while rushing for at least 100 yards in each game he appeared in. Greene racked up 1,850 yards and 20 touchdowns while earning honors as the top running back in the country.

In the Outback Bowl, Green helped guide the Hawkeyes to victory by rushing for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Recognized as the Big Ten Most Valuable Player, Green also won the Doak Walker Award and Jim Brown Trophy to further solidify his place as the best back in college in football.

Drafted in the third round by the New York Jets, Green went on to a five-year NFL career. Playing for the Jets and the Tennessee Titans, Green rushed for 4,110 yards and 24 touchdowns during his NFL career. #IowaOTD #IowaHistoryDaily #IowaHistoryCalendar
