Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On November 11, 1989, Hull Western Christian claimed the first of nineteen state championships in volleyball. A western Iowa powerhouse, the on-court success of the Wolfpack stands largely unparalleled in Iowa High School athletics.

Tom Van Den Bosch helped put Western Christian on the volleyball map while coaching at the school through 1996. Under his leadership, Westen Christian set a standard of success, which resulted in five state titles during the early era of success, including a record of 432-104. Van Den Bosch left the program to take over the volleyball program at Dordt College in 1997, where he won well over 400 games at the college level.

In 1999, former Western Christian standout Tammi Veerbeek took over the successful program and helped continue the team’s dominance into a new century. Under Veerbeek’s leadership, Western Christian added fourteen more state titles to overwhelm the trophy case in Hull.

The program has produced many notable players over the years, including professional volleyball player Nancy Metcalf, who played on the US national team from 2000 to 2012. As of November 2024, the Wolfpack have made 24 consecutive trips to the IGHSAU state volleyball tournament. #IowaOTD #IowaHistoryDaily #IowaHistoryCalendar
