Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On April 29, 1898, Major League Baseball pitcher Emil Henry “Dutch” Levson was born in Wyoming, Iowa.

Levson attended Iowa State University, a detail that helps place him in the growing world of college athletics that fed professional baseball during the dead-ball and early live-ball eras. His path also reflects a familiar Midwestern pattern: a farm-town upbringing, college competition, and then a move into the professional game.

Levsen reached the big leagues with Cleveland on September 28, 1923, at age 25, and finished with a 21-26 record, a 4.17 ERA, and 88 strikeouts. One of his strongest seasons came in 1923, when he starred for the Cedar Rapids Bunnies before Cleveland purchased his contract, a reminder that minor league success in Iowa could still open a door to the majors.

Although Levsen didn’t become an MLB legend, his story helps illustrate the wider world of early baseball in the Midwest, where hometown roots, college opportunity, and professional ambition could meet on the same path. #Iowa #OTD #History #Baseball #MLB
