Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On June 24, 1960, Iowa State wrestling legend Nate Carr (Sr.) was born. He became one of the Cyclones’ most accomplished champions, a wrestler whose explosiveness and consistency helped define an era in Ames.

Carr emerged from a highly competitive Pennsylvania wrestling background and brought that edge to Iowa State, where the program already stood among the nation’s elite. By the early 1980s, Iowa State was winning team trophies and producing top individual performers, and Carr fit that tradition with rare authority.

Carr arrived at Iowa State as a gifted recruit and left as a three-time NCAA champion at 150 pounds. He won national titles from 1981 through 1983, captured two Big Eight championships, and finished his Cyclone career with a record of 122-16-2, a mark that placed him among the program’s all-time greats.

After college, he moved into international freestyle wrestling and won a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, then added more world-level success in the years that followed. Iowa State continues to honor him as a member of its Hall of Fame. #Iowa #OTD #History #Wrestling #Olympians
